PARK RIDGE, IL – Six of the Big Ten’s 11 starting centers were named to the watch list for the 2004 Dave Rimington Trophy, awarded annually to the country’s top center. The Big Ten and ACC both boast six student-athletes on the pre-season list, which ranks second to the SEC’s seven selections.
Each of the Big Ten’s six nominees will be juniors during the 2004 campaign, as the watch list includes Iowa’s Brian Ferentz, Michigan’s Mark Bihl, Michigan State’s Chris Morris, Minnesota’s Greg Eslinger, Ohio State’s Nick Mangold and Wisconsin’s Donovan Raiola.
In its fifth year, the Rimington Award has been presented to one Big Ten player in the past – Ohio State’s LeCharles Bentley in 2001. The winner of the Rimington Award is determined by the consensus All-America center from four existing All-America Teams – the American Football Coaches Association, Walter Camp Foundation, Sporting News and Football Writers Association teams.
