Recap | Box Score | Notes
Thad Matta, Ohio State head coach
On the squads’ progression
“We still have a way to go with shot selection and we do not completely understand what needs to be done both offensively and defensively, but we are improving. Our guys know where we need to be and we need to just keep on working.”
On the game
“I thought we had decent awareness on the floor tonight and I think we had some good performances from some of our young guys.”
On the team’s trip to Kansas City
“Everyday I learn something new about this team and going on the road will really give us an idea about how we respond in front of a tough environment.”
On Tony Stockman’s performance
“I am really happy for Tony. Coming into the game tonight, he was shooting close to 25 percent from the field. I think a game like this could really help his confidence. He has really worked before and after game to improve and we will need him to play well for us to be successful this season.”
Brandon Fuss-Cheatham, senior point guard
On his injured ankle
“It feels close to a hundred percent. Yesterday, the ankle felt great in practice and when I got on the court today, I forgot about the injury and just played hard.”
Tony Stockman, senior guard
On his fast start
“It felt real good tonight. The last couple days I have been working on my shot in practice at game speed. I think that helped me out tonight as I found my touch.” On going to Kansas City for the semifinals of the Guardian’s Classic
“We were excited for these first couple games at home, but we know that K.C. is a step up in competition. We are really excited to see how we do there.”
J.J. Sullinger, junior guard
On the first three games this season
“We got a chance through these first three games to work on our system. It allowed us to work on certain situations along with executing on both offense and defense.”
On opportunity to go to Kansas City
“Last year we just went to Maui (Invitational), but never really showed up on the court. This time, we earned a trip to Kansas City and we’re turning things around from last year.”
Mike Henderson, Delaware head coach
On the loss to Ohio State
“We cannot start with 19 turnovers in the first half against a team like Ohio State. I give credit to them. They are a solid basketball team and very athletic. You have to get a hand up in their face on every shot. On our end, we cannot make mistakes like we did and compete with them. We did a better job of controlling the ball in the second half, but we dug ourselves too big a hole. Ohio State is going to give you shots, but if you don’t make them, they are not going to give any second shots. They gave us shots, but we just did not knock them down.”
