Postgame Quotes
Ohio State head coach John Markell
On the game
“I think we played a good game. We had some missed opportunities; unfortunately the game turned out the way it did. It is disappointing to lose, but you have to give credit where credit is due. I do think our guys played hard. We need to give the same effort tomorrow, but play smarter.”
On pulling Mike Betz
“I pulled Mike because I thought it was an opportunity to change the momentum. All that matters is tying the series now and getting two points.”
Ohio State senior forward Chris Olsgard
On the game
“I think we played hard most of the game, but Michigan State did what they had to do to win. We had a solid first period, out-shooting them, but that goal at the end of the first period had us going into the locker room thinking about the goal.”
Ohio State sophomore Rod Pelley
On the game
“We definitely worked hard during most of the game. We played hard with a lot of effort. I felt like Michigan State was holding on to its 3-1 lead and did not want to take chances. We took it to them in the third period, but we had some mental lapses.”
Michigan State head coach Rick Comley
On the win
“This was obviously a very good win for us. We’ve struggled the last four times against Ohio State and it was great to come out with a ‘W’ tonight.”
On Michigan State’s good fortune in the game
“We had good luck and bad luck in this game. The bad luck is that we had a major injury. The good luck is that we were able to get a cross-bar when we needed it. Ohio State is a very good team, but we were able to get the maximum out of our team tonight.”
