Wurtzman is the first Buckeye to receive a top national ranking in program history. | Jeremy Wurtzman: Welcome! Thanks everyone for joining Jeremy Wurtzman today. We have several questions so let’s get started. | ||
| Ronald Meijer: Aren’t The Buckeyes on or near the same level as last year’s national champions, Illinois, now that Illinois has lost all of it’s players and the Buckeyes have a lot of top young talent ? | ||
| Jeremy Wurtzman: Illinois is still a very strong team. We hope to be able to compete at their level this season. It will be tough to live up to a high standard such as Illinois. | ||
| Doug Snapp (Columbus): They always say that the mental part of the game is more important than most people realize. What are your feelings to that? | ||
| Jeremy Wurtzman: I defintely feel it is one of the most important parts of the game. I need to be able to keep a strong mind throughout a match to be successful. | ||
| Doug Snapp (Columbus): What part of your game has improved most in your time here at OSU? | ||
| Jeremy Wurtzman: My fitness and conditioning has improved the most since I have been at Ohio State. It has helped me to stay physically strong throughout a match and a long season. Also, my experience playing a lot of different players has helped me as well. | ||
| Columbus: How did you feel when you first heard the official news about being ranked No. 1? | ||
| Jeremy Wurtzman: I felt that I have achieved one of the goals I made for myself during my four years of college. Also, the ranking has put some pressure on me to try and stay at No. 1. | ||
| Warren: Jeremy, After your great accomplishments, the obviuos question becomes: Who was the biggest influence on your tennis career? | ||
| Jeremy Wurtzman: That’s a tough question. There has been a lot of people who have influenced my tennis career. But my family would probably be the most influencial. They are always encouraging me to practice and play as many tournaments as possible. | ||
| Curtis (Columbus): Hi Jeremy, I have been folowing you since I first saw your swing. How big of a role do you think your mechanics have played in your success? | ||
| Jeremy Wurtzman: It has played a major role in my tennis having a solid technical base as a young player. | ||
| Jason (Lewis Center): Is it difficult having your brother as one of your coaches or is he able to help you in ways that other coaches could not. | ||
| Jeremy Wurtzman: My brother Marc has played a huge role in my success. He is always there to help me both on and off the court. I feel that he has been able to me better than other coaches could because he knows me so well off the court. | ||
| Robert Meijer (Columbus, Ohio): With all the freshman isn’t upsetting Illinois at least possible ? | ||
| Jeremy Wurtzman: We go into every match thinking we can win. We have a very tough non-conference schedule that should help us prepare to play Illinois and the rest of the Big Ten. | ||
| Jeff: I love tennis, but I need one trick that you think works best to break serve. | ||
| Jeremy Wurtzman: There are really no tricks to breaking serve. But going out and practicing your return of serve will help. | ||
| mike (dublin): Do you think you are strong enough to stay number 1 for a while? | ||
| Jeremy Wurtzman: I feel like I am strong enough to saty at No. 1. But many other players are capable of becoming the top player. | ||
| Jim (Columbus): What do you do to stay focused mentally? | ||
| Jeremy Wurtzman: I try to focus on each point and not think about past points. I try to keep my mind set in the present. | ||
| Trista (Austin): What are some goals you have set for yourself this season? | ||
| Jeremy Wurtzman: My goal for the season as an individual is to try and improve my net game and my serve. As a team we would like to make a trip back to the Round of 16 at the NCAA Championship. | ||
| Bernard (Sikeston, Mo.): What will you miss the most about Ohio State when you graduate? | ||
| Jeremy Wurtzman: I will miss competing as a team and all of the fun times that we have had traveling together. I will also miss the whole aspect of college life. | ||
| Jeremy Wurtzman: I have time for one more question. | ||
| Gregory (Gainesville): What are your future plans once you graduate and finish the tennis season? | ||
| Jeremy Wurtzman: I plan to go out and play tennis professionally. I want to continue playing for many years to come and I plan to stay involved with tennis. | ||
