The win extends the Buckeyes’ winning streak to 16, the longestactive streak in the country. Since Ohio State first fielded a teamin 1890, the squad is 748-292-53 overall. OSU’s record vs. Mountain West teams is 7-1all-time, with its only loss coming in 1990 to Air Force. Theattendance today of 104,433 was the seventh-largest total in OhioStadium history. The win over San Diego State extends Ohio State’snon-conference home winning streak to 33. The last non-conferenceloss at home was to USC Sept. 22, 1990 (35-26). When OSU is rankedin the AP Top 10, the squad is 266-63-9. When the Buckeyes areranked by the AP their mark is 365-116-14. Senior quarterback CraigKrenzel improved to 17-1 as a starter for the Buckeyes. His onlyloss was in the 2002 Outback Bowl, when he played sparingly. Withthe win, OSU head coach Jim Tressel’s school record moves to 23-5and 14-2 at home. His career record now stands at 158-62-2. WillAllen’s 100-yard interception return for a touchdown in the firstquarter set the Ohio Stadium record. The previous long in thestadium was by Howard Cassady, who had an 88-yard run againstWisconsin in 1954. Smith’s run ties the school record of 100 yardson a return, set by David Brown at Purdue in 1986 and tied byMarlon Kerner, also at Purdue, in 1993. With the 16-13 win today,Ohio State has won eight consecutive games when the difference isseven points or less. The win over the Aztecs marked the first timethe Buckeyes were held without an offensive touchdown since the13-7 Buckeye victory over Penn State Oct. 26, 2002. The Buckeyeshave not allowed an opposing player to rush for 100 or more yardsat home in 12 consecutive games, dating back to San Diego State’sLarry Ned’s 112-yard performance Oct. 20, 2001 at Ohio Stadium.Mike Nugent extended his school-record streak of consecutive fieldgoals made in Ohio Stadium to 17 with his 38-yard and 32-yard kicksin the first quarter. The streak was ended when he missed a 28-yardattempt in the third quarter. The streak began against Texas Techlast season with a 45-yard kick. Allen’s score was the firstBuckeye touchdown off an interception since Chris Gamble scoredagainst Penn State last season (40 yards). Senior linebacker RobertReynolds’ interception in the first quarter was his first sincepicking off a pass against San Diego State in 2001. With hissecond-quarter grab, senior split end Michael Jenkins extended hisstreak of consecutive games with a catch to 28. The Buckeyes wereheld to 196 yards of total offense against the Aztecs. It was thefirst time Ohio State was held under 200 yards of total offensesince Sept. 22, 2000 at UCLA, a 13-6 loss. Sophomore tight end RyanHamby’s 31-yard reception in the third quarter was a career long,topping his run of 21 against Washington last week. Junior tailbackMaurice Hall’s 33-yard rush near the end of the third quartermarked a career best. His previous high was 28, set in 2001 vs.Akron and in 2002 against both Kent State and Minnesota. Freshmanlineman David Patterson’s fourth-quarter fumble recovery was thefirst of his Buckeye career. It was forced by sophomore linebackerMike D’Andrea, marking the second of his career. Sophomorelinebacker A.J. Hawk had a career-high two sacks in the game. Inall of last season, he had just .5 of a sack. Bobby Carpenter’sfourth-quarter sack was the first of his career. Senior quarterbackCraig Krenzel moved up to eighth place on the career passing yardslist with 76 yards against the Aztecs, improving his total to2,732. Craig Krenzel’s first-quarter interception was his first athome since he had two passes picked off against Penn State lastseason (Oct. 26).
