COLUMBUS, Ohio: Junior offensive tackle Mike Kne has been awarded a scholarship by football coach Jim Tressel. Kne (pronounced knee) was added to the grant-in-aid list at the beginning of the week.
“Mike has worked hard and deserves to be rewarded for his effort,” said Tressel. “He has worked his way into our rotation on the offensive line and have played well for us.”
The 6-4, 300-pound Kne, a product of Cleveland St. Ignatius High School, has played in all four games this year for the unbeaten and fourth-ranked Buckeyes.
A transfer from Fordham, where he started every game as a freshman in 2000, he enrolled at Ohio State in 2001 and sat out the year in accordance with NCAA requirements. He appeared in 11 games last year and earned his first letter.
“Obviously, I am thrilled,” said the blond-headed offensive lineman. “My dream has always been to play for Ohio State. Now I am also getting my education paid for. I am very appreciative to Coach Tressel and Coach (Jim) Bollman for giving me this opportunity and allowing me to realize my dream.”
