Drew Anderson (So., Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) wasunanimously named the most outstanding player of the NCAA AuburnRegional by batting .429 (6-of-14) with two doubles and four homeruns. He touched 20 bases, double the amount of any other Buckeye,for a slugging percentage of 1.429. He homered twice in the winover No. 21 and No. 2 seed Clemson and then again in the first winover No. 13 and top-seed Auburn. Freshman thrower Amarachi Ukabamtopped the field in the women’s discus at the 2003 NCAA MideastRegional Championships, with a throw of 171-2. Ukabam alsoqualified for nationals in the shot put with her 51-6.50 fourthplace mark in the shot put. The first varsity 4 placed fourthnationally in its competition at the 2003 NCAA RowingChampionships, tying program bests for top finish by an individualboat and top first varsity 4 finish. The crew, which includesJessica Dolle (Sr., Cincinnati, Ohio/Finneytown), Becca Brinker(Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton), Liz Tuppen (So., Buffalo,N.Y./Sacred Heart), Devin Walsh (Jr., Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood) andcoxswain Jamie Berning (So., Toledo, Ohio/Notre Dame) helped guidethe way to the Buckeyes’ eighth-place team finish at the 2003championships. The boat finishes the season with a 33-9 record.

Ohio State will serve as the host to Southwest Missouri Statein an NCAA Baseball Super Regional beginning Saturday at Bill DavisStadium. The games will be played Saturday at 8:05 p.m., Sunday at6:05 p.m. and Monday at 1:05 p.m., if necessary. The winner willadvance to the College World Series, June 13-23 in Omaha, Neb. OhioState has not been to the College World Series since 1967. TheBuckeyes finished as the national runner up in 1965 and claimed thenational title in 1966. The last time Ohio State was this close wasin 1999, the last time Bill Davis Stadium held a Super Regional.The Buckeyes played host to Cal State-Fullerton that year and wonthe opening game on a grand slam by Chad Ehrnsberger in the eighthinning before dropping the final two games to the Titans. The 2003Buckeyes improved to 44-19 overall after sweeping through theAuburn Regional beating Clemson 10-8 before taking a pair of winsagainst national No. 4 seed Auburn by scores of 6-2 and 9-7.

General admission tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and youth. To alleviate long lines at Will Call, individuals may want to make their purchase on the Internet, so their seat location is loaded directly on their credit card, similar to electronic ticketing. Ohio State students may have their seat location loaded directly to their student ID card.
After placing fourth on the men’s side and sixth in the women’scompetition as the host of the 2003 Mideast Regional Track andField Championships, Ohio State will travel 10 national qualifiersto compete in the NCAA Outdoor Championships at California StateUniversity at Sacramento starting Wednesday, June 11 throughSaturday, June 14.
Leading Ohio State was a regional championship effort by thrower Amarachi Ukabam as she topped the field in the women’s discus with a throw of 171-2. Ukabam also qualified for nationals in the shot put with her 51-6.50 fourth place mark in the shot put. 2003 Big Ten Athlete of the Year Dan Taylor joins Ukabam as a multi-qualifier as he scored runner-up marks in the shot put and discus, while taking third in the hammer. Taylor’s 193-7 mark in the discus surpassed his own OSU record.
Sprinter Joel Brown also established an Ohio State record as he took second in the men’s 110-meter hurdles with a career-best 13.58. Brown was edged at the finish line by just .01. Fellow hurdler Molly Logan will join Brown as she also posted a career-best mark of 13.03 to place third in the finals of the women’s 100-meter hurdles.
Junior Drew Carter also set a personal record with his leap of 26-3.50 to place second in the men’s long jump, while fellow jumper Shayla Moore earned a bid with a fourth place 43-0.25 in the women’s triple jump. Moore’s mark also is a season-best and serves as the No. 2 all-time mark in OSU history.
Other Buckeyes to gain berths to the national championships were throwers Krista Keir in the discus and Keturah Lofton in the hammer, while senior high jumper Tami Smith and freshman distance runner Aaron Fisher were selected for their qualifying marks posted earlier this season.
The rowing team capped off its season with an eighth-placefinish at the 2003 NCAA Championships over the weekend at EagleCreek Reservoir in Indianapolis, Ind. Leading the way was theBuckeye first varsity 4, which tied a program best with afourth-place national finish. The OSU first varsity 8 finishedninth nationally, while the second varsity 8 finished fifth in itsevent. The championship regatta was only the second time in programhistory that two of the team’s three competing boats reached NCAAgrand final races. Men’s golfers Zach Doran (Jr., Dublin,Ohio/Columbus Academy) and Scott Anderson (So., Great Falls,Mont./Great Falls) earned post-season accolades from the GolfCoaches Association of America. Doran added to his 2003 post-seasonresume as he was named to the 2003 Ping All-America HonorableMention Team as well as the 2003 Ping Midwest Regional Team, whileAnderson was named to the Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars forhis for excellence in the classroom. The women’s golf teamcommemorated the 2002-03 season with its annual awards andappreciation banquet Friday afternoon. The Buckeyes capped off theyear with a school-best fourth-place finish at the NCAAchampionships. The squad recorded the lowest team stroke average at301.32, breaking the mark from a year ago. The team also capturedtheir eighth Big Ten title and now have more conferencechampionships than any other school in the Big Ten. It also was thefirst year the squad had two All-America honorees in Kristen Whiteand Allison Hanna. In addition, White and Jen Borowiec were namedAcademic All-Americans. The squad also had three of six All-Big Tenselections, seven Academic All-Big Ten honorees and eight OSUScholar-Athletes. White and Hanna shared the team’s highest honorof Most Valuable Player. The softball squad celebrated the 2003season at the team’s annual awards banquet Sunday, June 1, in theOhio Stadium Recruit Room. The Buckeyes, who posted a 26-23 overallmark and a 5-11 record in Big Ten action this season, awarded 12annual accolades for athletic and academic achievement throughoutthe 2003 season and said goodbye to the winningest class in OhioState history (154 career victories). Among the seven departingseniors are: Katie Chain (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover), Annie Dedic(Yorba Linda, Calif./Fullerton J.C.), Amy Ellis (Eerie, Pa./BallState), Kristine Himes (Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley), RogeannaHottinger (Newark, Ohio/Newark), Liz Kacsanek (Uniontown,Ohio/Green) and Jennifer Link (Yorba Linda, Calif./Sonora).

WNBA Minnesota Lynx forward Tamika Williams and Erin Wrighthave been named assistant coach and director of basketballoperations, respectively, for the Ohio State women’s basketballprogram. A student assistant for the Buckeyes last season,Williams’ primary duties will include on-the-floor coaching andrecruiting responsibilities and Wright, who served as the directorof basketball operations for two seasons at Vanderbilt underFoster, will be managing the day-to-day operations of Buckeyebasketball, including travel, camp and schedule coordination. TheAthletics Communications/Marketing Intramural Softball Team pickedup a league tournament title Monday, beating The White House, 9-4.After giving up a run in the top of the first, the team took a leadit would not relinquish, cruising to the victory. Members of thesquad included Jeff Brown, Andy Fledderjohann, Amanda Horning, BillJones, Pat Kindig, Todd Kucinski, Stephanie Monday, KatharinePalmer, Leann Parker, Adam Widman and captain Miranda Zink. Theteam went 6-2 on the year and ended the season on a five-gamewinning streak. Kindig picked up MVP and Offensive Player of theYear honors, while Brown received Defensive Player of the Year andCoaches Award accolades. Widman was named Pitcher of the Year,Fledderjohann garnered Most Improved accolades and Palmer was namedthe Rookie of the Year. Zink received the Buckeye Spirit Award.Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors went to Parker and Horning.
