COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel today said freshman linebacker Bobby Carpenter would miss the remainder of spring practice because of an eye injury.
Carpenter was struck in the right eye early Sunday morning while trying to intervene in an altercation between several people on north High St. He was treated and released at University Medical Center.
Carpenter played in all 14 games last year as a true freshman and finished his rookie season with 12 tackles.
“Our players have heard me say a thousand times that ‘Nothing good ever happens after 10 p.m.,'” said Tressel. “At the same time, Bobby was trying to assist someone in trouble and we would never discourage that. The important thing is that Bobby is not seriously hurt and should be ready to go in the fall.”
