Four from Ohio State Track and Field Compete for Last Chance NCAA Qualification Bids – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio – Four members of the Ohio State track and field team will compete in the Alex Wilson Invitational on the campus of the University of Notre Dame Friday and Saturday with last chance aspirations to automatically qualify for next week’s NCAA Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. March 14 and 15.
Senior Rusty Azbell (Lancaster, Ohio), fresh off a second place showing in the weight throw at the Big Ten Championships, and freshman Mike D’Andrea (Avon Lake, Ohio), who placed eighth in the conference shot put field, seek to post automatic qualifying marks. The Ohio State throw team has already qualified 2003 Big Ten Indoor Athlete of the Year Dan Taylor (Middlefield, Ohio) in both the shot put and weight throw and Big Ten record holder Krista Keir (Westerville, Ohio) in the shot put, while four others have earned provisional marks, including Azbell and D’Andrea.
Hurdler Brandi Hogan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) will also be in search of an automatic mark in the 60-meter hurdles, while sophomore Shayla Moore (Jessup, Md.) will attempt to earn a bid in the triple jump.
Azbell, weight throw, and Moore, hurdles, will compete in the first events of the Alex Wilson at 6 p.m. Friday, while D’Andrea will commence Saturday’s events in the shot put at 11 a.m. Hogan will look to earn a seat in the 60m hurdles finals at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Ohio State’s national qualifiers will compete March 14 and 15 at the 2003 NCAA Indoor Championships at the University of Arkansas.
