Ohio State Women’s Soccer Honored by NSCAA for Academic Success – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s soccer team and head coach Lori Walker not only posted its finest season in history of the program with a 13-5-3 mark and a trip to the second round of the NCAA tournament, but also equaled the success academically with a 3.18 team grade-point average. The academic performance proved worthy of recognition by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America as a 2002-03 Team Academic Award winner.
Walker and the Buckeyes have earned the honor in each of the last four seasons as the seventh-year head coach has mentored 45 Academic All-Big Ten performers and 62 OSU Scholar-Athletes in her tenure. Recently, junior defender Erica Nollen (West Chester, Ohio/ Lakota East) was named a second-team Academic All-American in District IV with a 3.79 GPA in mechanical engineering and senior forward Jackie Shirer (Medina, Ohio/ Medina) deemed third-team honors with a 3.20 in psychology, while nine Buckeyes earned Academic All-Big Ten following the 2003 campaign.
“Consistency and competition on the field and in the classroom are cornerstones in our program mission,” Walker said. “I am so proud of the continued achievement of our team. The momentum in our program right now is energetic and contagious.”
