Field hockey senior forward Vanessa Immordino (Sr., Roseland, N.J.) was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week and the womensfieldhockey.com Division I National Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 26. Immordino led Ohio State to three wins last week, including two over Big Ten foes Indiana and No. 5 Michigan, which helped the Buckeyes climb into a tie for first place in the Big Ten standings with one game to play. The senior forward opened her week by equaling her career-best with six points, including two goals and two assists, against Miami (Ohio). She capped off her week with the game-winning goal on a penalty shot against nationally-ranked Michigan, handing the Wolverines their first conference loss this season and boosting the Buckeyes to the top of the league standings.
Football tailback Lydell Ross was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week following Saturday’s 35-6 win over Indiana. Ross rushed for a career-high 167 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries against the Hoosiers. Ross scored on runs of 11, 2 and 1 yards in helping the Buckeyes jump out to a 35-0 lead. In addition to recording the third 100-yard game of his career, Ross also caught three passes for 33 yards.
