COLUMBUS, Ohio: Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel has suspended senior linebacker Robert Reynolds for one game following Reynolds’ act of unsportsmanlike conduct in last week’s Wisconsin game.
Reynolds, a second-year starter at outside linebacker for the eighth-ranked Buckeyes, will sit out this Saturday’s Homecoming game against No. 9 Iowa.
“Robert has apologized and is sincerely sorry for his actions last week,” said Tressel. “I want to emphasize that I think this is an isolated incident and completely out of character for Robert Reynolds.
“However, after getting a first-hand look at the tape and seeing what took place, I feel that the apology by itself is not enough. Robert’s conduct was totally unacceptable and has no place in intercollegiate athletics. I am therefore suspending him for the Iowa game.
“I have talked to Coach (Barry) Alvarez and informed him of my decision.
“Again, we apologize to Jim Sorgi and the University of Wisconsin for this unfortunate incident. I know that no one regrets it more than Robert Reynolds.”
