Columbus, Ohio – Ohio State senior defender Jen Miller (Centerville, Ohio) was selected as a member of the 2002 NSCAA All-Academic Second Team for her efforts this season. Miller, a Verizon Academic All-America First Team in District IV and an Academic All-Big Ten recipient in 2000, 2001 and 2002, is one of 11 Buckeyes with grade point averages that exceeded 3.0 during the season as the Ohio State women’s soccer team was recognized by the NSCAA as a recipient of the 2002 College Team Academic Award.
Miller helped lead the Buckeyes to a dramatic Big Ten Tournament title and the program’s first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament as she piloted a defensive unit that allowed just 1.5 goals per contest and recorded five shutouts on the season.
Miller, who assisted on the first goal of Ohio State’s 2-1 Big Ten Championship match victory over Wisconsin, holds a 3.84 grade point average in mechanical engineering and has earned Ohio State Scholar-Athlete status in each of the 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002 seasons.
Ohio State head coach Lori Walker commanded a squad this season that accumulated a 3.21 team GPA, which was worthy of academic recognition by the NSCAA as the Buckeye squad received the College Team Academic Award for their efforts in 2002.
Walker will be presented with the College Team Academic Award at the College Coaches Luncheon Thursday, Jan. 16 during the 2003 NSCAA Convention, held Jan. 15-19 in Kansas City, Mo. Miller will be recognized as a member of the NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-America Teams at the NSCAA/adidas All-America Luncheon, to be held Saturday, Jan. 18, which is also part of the 2003 NSCAA Convention in Kansas City, Mo.
