Buckeyes Closing on Purdue
Purdue is just seven games up in the all-time series between the Buckeyes and Boilermakers. Purdue leads 77-70 all time but have lost the last six meetings against Ohio State, including the last three in West Lafayette. Ohio State has not won four-consecutive games on the road in the series since 1950-54. The Buckeyes downed Purdue 79-71 last year in West Lafayette and 77-66 in Columbus. The game this year at Purdue will be the 74th trip to West Lafayette for the Buckeyes.. Ohio State is 47-27 in games played in Columbus. The Boilermakers hold a 50-23 edge in West Lafayette.
Boilers Welcome Buckeyes with 12-4 Record
Purdue is off to a 12-4 start this season with a 4-1 record in Big Ten Conference play. The only league loss to date was a 75-62 setback at Illinois. The Boilermakers own conference wins over Northwestern, Michigan State, Penn State and Indiana. In non-conference action, Purdue was 8-3 with a win over Louisville.
Purdue Cruises to Win Over Indiana
Kenny Lowe scored 19 points, Willie Deane had 18 and Chris Booker 13 as Purdue dominated from start to finish in a 69-47 win over No. 14 Indiana. The Boilermakers snapped a five-game losing streak to the Hoosiers and improved to 10-0 at home. It was their first win over a Top-25 team since they beat No. 9 Illinois Jan. 9, 2002. Purdue was 1-12 in its last 13 games against ranked teams. Purdue beat Louisville just before it entered the Top 25 and defeated Michigan State the day after it fell out of the poll. Purdue did plenty of good things against Indiana and controlled the game from the outset, thanks largely to guards Lowe and Deane. Lowe hit three 3-pointers and scored 13 points and Deane had seven points in the first 10 minutes, as Purdue jumped to a 22-12 lead and never let the lead dip below 11. Lowe made his first six shots and scored 17 points in the first half.
Deane Top Scorer for Boilers
Senior guard Willie Deane is the top scorer for Purdue with 17.0 points per game. He is followed by junior Kenneth Lowe’s 12.3 ppg. and junior forward Chris Booker’s 10.9 ppg. Booker also is the team’s leading rebounder with 5.9 rebounds a contest. Lowe has been to the foul line 76 times this season and has made 69 attempts to average 91 percent accuracy at the free throw line.
Keady in 23rd Year at Purdue
Gene Keady has been on the sidelines at Purdue for the last 23 years. His career record is 519-247, which includes a couple seasons at Western Kentucky. At Purdue, he has a record of 481-228.
Dials, Darby Top Scorers vs. Purdue
Senior Brent Darby has played in four career games against the Boilermakers and has averaged 11.2 points a game in those meetings. Sophomore Terence Dials, who is not with a back injury, played in two games last year and averaged 12.0 points, connecting on 9 of 10 field goal attempts. Junior Zach Williams and senior Sean Connolly both have three games of experience against Purdue as Buckeyes. Connolly played against the Boilermakers once while at Providence. Williams averages 8.6 points and a team-high 5.0 rebounds vs. Purdue while Connolly chips in 8.0 points a game.
Buckeyes Seek Back-to-Back Road Wins
Ohio State is in position to win back-to-back road games for the first time since wins at UMass and Northwestern Jan. 9 and 12 of 2002. The last time the Buckeyes won two consecutive road games in Big Ten play was during a five-game road winning streak near the end of the 2001 Big Ten season. The Buckeyes won their last two road games in the league that year over Northwestern and Penn State Feb. 24 and March 3, respectively.
Darby Reaches 1,000 Points vs. Indiana, Connolly Closing
Senior guard Brent Darby became the 41st player at Ohio State to score 1,000 career points during his 28-point effort against Indiana (1/11). Darby has 1,096 career points and is No. 34 all-time on the Ohio State scoring chart. Sean Connolly has scored 971 career points, which includes 330 while a freshman at Providence. Darby has played 40 or more minutes in eight games, including three of the last five contests. Connolly has not come out of five games and has played 39 in two others. He played a season low 31 minutes at Iowa last Saturday.
Three Buckeyes Playing More than 34 Minutes Per Game
Jim O’Brien has not had three players log more than 34 minutes per game until this season. Seniors Sean Connolly (37.9) and Brent Darby (37.8) along with junior Zach Williams (34.1) all have trouble finding time to rest this season. The Buckeyes have used eight different starting lineups because of injuries but Darby, Connolly and Williams remain the anchors of the Buckeye lineup. No Buckeye in O’Brien’s six years has averaged as many minutes as Connolly or Darby since Michael Redd played 37.9 minutes a game as a freshman in 1997-98. Three other players averaged 30 or more minutes that season, but not more than 34 a contest.

The last time the Buckeyes finished the season above .700 at the foul line was in 1999-00 when the Buckeyes knocked down 443-629 free throws (.704).
