Maurice Clarett ended the game with a career-best 230 yards rushing on a career-high 31 carries. His rushing total is the sixth-highest single game total in OSU history and the second-highest mark for a freshman (Archie Griffin 239 vs. North Carolina in 1972).
Clarett earned over 200 yards for the first time in his career and tallied over 100 yards for the second time in the first three games of his OSU career. The last time a Buckeye rushed for over 200 yards was Michael Wiley against Missouri in 1998 (209 yards, 24 attempts). Clarett is averaging 157 yards per game this season.
Clarett scored two rushing touchdowns in the game and now has six in his three-game OSU career. He has seven total scores, as he caught a TD pass against Kent State.
Kicker Mike Nugent connected on two 43-yard field goals in the first half and on a career-high tying 45-yarder in the third quarter. They were his sixth-, seventh- and eighth-consecutive attempts made (seven this year, one in 2001). Nugent’s eight consecutive field goals (over five games) ranks fifth all-time in OSU history. He has seven in a row in Ohio Stadium (in three games this year), tying for fourth all-time in program history. In his career he is 7-for-9 from 40 or more yards out for his career, 4-for-4 this year. Nugent is 14-for-14 on extra point attempts this season and has made his last 36.
The attendance today of 104,553 is an Ohio Stadium record. The previous high was 104,407 vs. Illinois in 2001.
The Buckeyes have scored on their first offensive drives in each of their first three games. They had touchdowns vs. Texas Tech and Kent State and a field goal against WSU today.

Today, they outscored WSU 3-0 in the second, 12-0 in the third and 7-0 in the fourth. OSU was the first team to score on WSU in the fourth quarter this season. Coming into the game, the Cougars had outscored their opponents 31-0 in the final quarter.
Two true freshmen have had interceptions for OSU in back-to-back games. Freshman Tyler Everett’s interception in the fourth quarter was the first of his career. Against Kent State last week, A.J. Hawk picked off a pass for the first of his career.
Quarterback Craig Krenzel’s 29-yard run in the fourth quarter was a career-best mark.
WSU’s touchdown at 8:33 of the first quarter, giving the Cougars a 7-3 lead, was the first time OSU has trailed this season.
The game today was OSU’s first win at home over an AP Top 10 team since a 28-9 victory over No. 7 Penn State Oct. 3, 1998 (that was also the last time ESPN’s GameDay was on campus). Ohio State was the No. 1-ranked team in that game.
This was the Buckeyes’ first home win over an AP Top 10 non-conference team since a 36-33 victory over No. 7 LSU Sept. 24, 1988. Ohio State was not ranked in that game.
