Indians & Warfield Family Establish Scholarship Funds For Athletic Training Students at Ohio State & Penn State – Ohio State Buckeyes

CLEVELAND, OH —- The Cleveland Indians along with Linda and Jordan Warfield today announced the establishment of scholarship funds at The Ohio State University and The Pennsylvania State University in the name of JIMMY WARFIELD, the long-time Indians trainer who passed away on July 16.
Jimmy Warfield was an Indians trainer for 32 seasons from 1971-2002 and was one of the most popular and well-respected members of the Indians organization. Following his untimely death on July 16, the Indians – along with the Warfield family – established The Jimmy Warfield Fund in his memory through the auspices of Cleveland Indians Charities. To date the fund has raised over $75,000.
The endowed scholarship funds — $50,000 each to both Ohio State and Penn State — will used to provide scholarships to undergraduate students who are pursuing athletic training degrees at each institution. The scholarships will be given to a different student for each new school year. Ohio State will award its first Scholarship on May 9, 2003 at the University’s annual spring banquet for athletic training. The University’s College of Health and Human Development will award the initial Penn State scholarship in the fall of 2003 to an undergraduate student from the Hershey/Harrisburg area of Pennsylvania, where Warfield grew up and attended high school.
Warfield family will present both schools with the monies raised from the fund during an in-game ceremony when the two schools clash in football on Saturday, October 26 in Ohio Stadium. Donations for the scholarship funds at OSU and PSU can be made through Cleveland Indians Charities. Checks should be made payable and sent to:

The family in the name of Jimmy Warfield will also make a donation to the Department of Neurosurgery at the Cleveland Clinic.
The Indians organization will formally re-name the home clubhouse training room the JIMMY WARFIELD TRAINING ROOM tomorrow, Friday, September 13 in a pre-game ceremony prior to the Tribe’s game against the Minnesota Twins at 7:05 PM in Jacobs Field. RHP CHARLES NAGY & 1B JIM THOME, along with other Indians players, trainers and team doctors, will present Linda and Jordan Warfield the plaque that will adorn the entrance into the Jimmy Warfield Training Room.
