DETROIT – Three Ohio State men’s hockey players were honored at the annual Central Collegiate Hockey Association awards banquet at the Fox Theatre. The event is part of the CCHA Super Six Championship Weekend in Detroit.
Buckeye junior Scott Titus (East Grand Rapids, Mich.) received the Terry Flanagan Memorial Award, given annually to an upperclassman that has overcome some type of personal adversity and is active on the university campus and surrounding community. The award is named for the Bowling Green assistant coach who passed away in December 1991 after a battle with cancer. Titus missed all but one game last season, as he recovered from major surgery because of a bone infection in his arm that originally was thought to be cancer. Titus, a defenseman, is a key member of the OSU squad this season, going +5 and posting a goal and seven assists for eight points. Titus is the first Buckeye ever to receive the honor.
R.J. Umberger (Pittsburgh, Pa.), a sophomore center, received the Ohio State Perani Cup Three Star Award. He led the Buckeyes in three stars of the game honors in league competition, as voted on by the media in attendance. It was the second consecutive season Umberger picked up the award. Umberger is leading the Buckeyes in goals (18), assists (20) and points (38) this season.
Junior Miguel Lafleche (Crysler, Ontario), an electrical engineering major, was honored as a member of the CCHA All-Academic Team. He was one of just nine CCHA student-athletes named to the squad and the first Buckeye to do so since 1995.
