Big Ten Women’s Soccer Tournament Championship Match Set – Ohio State Buckeyes

East Lansing, Mich. – The 2002 Ohio State women’s soccer team (9-10-1) advanced to the Big Ten Tournament championship match with yet another thrilling victory over Purdue Friday in a penalty kick round following double-overtime. The win moves the Buckeyes into the finals to face Wisconsin (11-7-3), a 1-0 winner over Illinois in Friday night’s semifinal, Sunday at 1 p.m. at Michigan State’s Old College Field.
Ohio State has claimed consecutive penalty kick wins over No. 24 Michigan in Thursday’s quarterfinal and No. 17 Purdue on Friday. Wisconsin has won a pair of 1-0 contests to advance to Sunday’s championship match. On Friday, the Badgers topped host Michigan State 1-0 and then knocked off Illinois by the same tally on Friday.
The Buckeyes bested the Badgers 1-0 in regular season play at Madison, Wisc. on Oct. 18 as Ohio State carried an unassisted goal by OSU sophomore forward Lisa Grubb in the 14th minute to victory. Wisconsin finished a shade better than Ohio State in the final Big Ten Standings with a 4-4-2 mark good for fifth in the conference, while OSU concluded Big Ten play with a 4-5-1 ledger for the seventh-seed.
