Buckeye freshman midfielder Danielle Dietrich (Cincinnati, Ohio) was also chosen for the 2002 Big Ten All-Freshman Team.
Miller, who was recently named as a member of the 2002 Verizon Academic All-America First Team in District IV, captained an Ohio State defensive unit that allowed just 1.44 goals per contest and recorded five shutouts during the regular the season. Her defensive unit twice held opponents to zero shots in a half as the Buckeyes held Kent State to no first period shots in the Buckeyes’ 3-0 win on Oct. 30 and held Cincinnati to zero shots in the second half of a 1-0 loss on Nov. 2.
Miller was also a major contributor on the offensive end, registering three goals and a team-best five assists to finish third on the team with 13 total points. She was recognized by Soccer America for her efforts in consecutive 1-0 wins over Wisconsin and Minnesota on the weekend of Oct. 18-20. In the Minnesota match, Miller netted the game-winning goal in the 107th minute of play for the double-overtime victory.
Dietrich was a force in the midfield in her initial season as a Buckeye, starting 17 of 18 regular season contests as she played through both a broken wrist and fractured foot. Danielle utilized her height advantage to often win balls for the OSU attack in midfield situations and also contributed six points on two goals and two assists. She added her second tally of 2002 in Ohio State’s 3-0 victory over Kent State on Oct. 30.
