EVANSTON, Ill.— Brian Brown had 15 points and Zach Williams added 12 in balanced Ohio State scoring attack as the Buckeyes beat Northwestern 55-48. Ohio State scored the first six points, led 12-3 after a layup by Williams, and never trailed in the game. Williams hit two jumpers and made a pair of free throws to put the Buckeyes up 22-13.
Tavaras Hardy, whose 21 points paced Northwestern, scored all of Northwestern’s points on a 7-0 run as the Wildcats got within 22-20. Ohio State’s Will Dudley made a short jumper as Ohio State extended its lead to 28-22 at halftime.
The Wildcats kept the game close the rest of the way. Northwestern closed to 35-32 midway through the second half, but the Buckeyes widened the margin to 44-35. The closest the Wildcats got again was five points. Northwestern made only 11-of-22 from the free-throw line and had 18 turnovers for the game.
The Buckeyes won for the 100th time in the series history with the Wildcats and have won six-consecutive meetings with Northwestern. Ohio State won for the seventh-consecutive time on the road in the Big Ten and for the 10th-consecutive time in regular-season league games.
