After a regular practice session Wednesday morning, the Ohio State football team participated in a kicking scrimmage at Ohio Stadium in the afternoon. Players on the losing team (Gray) had to walk from the Stadium back to the Woody Hayes Athletic Center at the conclusion of the scrimmage while members of the victorious Scarlet team were afforded the luxury of a bus ride to the WHAC. Following the morning session players commented on Coach Tressel and camp.
Scott McMullen (So., Granville, Ohio/Granville)
On Head Coach Jim Tressel
“Coach Tressel has been great. Everything I have read and heard about him he has lived up to. He is really interested in his players. He gives me a lot of confidence.”
On fall camp
“It’s been going really well. It’s a grind sometimes. A lot of people are glad it’s coming to an end. We’re ready to start game week and start the season off.”
Adrien Clarke (So., Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights)
On Coach Tressel
“Coach Tressel has been more than what I expected. He’s a player’s coach. He’s cool with all of us. You can’t say enough about him.”
On camp
“Camp is going very well. I get real excited when it comes time to scrimmage. We’ve done a lot of hitting this year. It’s been very physical. It’s good for us. It shows how tough we really are.”
Chris Gamble (Fr., Sunrise, Fla./Dillard)
On Coach Tressel
“He keeps us going and going. Since I’ve been here we just practice and practice. That’s good for me. He’s a good motivator at practice. He keeps us on our toes.”
On camp
“It was hard at first getting up so early in the morning, but now I’m used to it. I’ve just been going out there everyday, doing everything I can to get better. That’s what camp is for.” Joe Cooper (Sr., Columbus, Ohio/Independence)
On Coach Tressel
“He’s really focused on the team and what he wants to accomplish. He puts a lot of emphasis on togetherness and making sure we’re a team. He’s always saying little things in practice that make you think and prepare for the season. It really gets you motivated.”
On camp
“Two-a-days have been real grueling. It’s a lot more physical compared to what I’m used to. Everyone manages to adjust fine. It’s almost over. We’ll be playing games before too long.”
