%^$Coach Tressel
%^$On practicing without full gear
%^$”We held back a little bit and didn’t have not contact today, with the shells and the thigh pads. We got out there and threw in a few things. We did some things that didn’t take contact and hopefully get energized for the scrimmage tomorrow.”%^$
%^$On place kickers Mike Nugent and Josh Huston
%^$”They’re both showing that when they’re stroking the ball right, they’re both pretty darn good. This scrimmage tomorrow will be important, because that’s really only the part of the special teams that will be apart of the scoring, will be field goals. Then we will have our kick scrimmage next week, which will be huge for them. Then, we’ll see how it emerges.”%^$
%^$On his teams toughness so far
%^$”I haven’t seen them back off anything, but I haven’t seen them put to any extraordinary toughness test yet. If there are some long drives tomorrow, that could be one of them. There will be moments in every game-including the first one-that there will be some toughness moments.”%^$
%^$Maurice Hall (Fr., Columbus, Ohio/Brookhaven)
%^$On practice thus far
%^$”It feels like I’ve been in camp forever. I’m constantly moving around every day. There’s never any time to rest. The morning practice is pretty rough for me but once I get going I’m all right. It’s going really good though. I’m learning new things everyday.”%^$
%^$On what he needs to improve on
%^$”I have to get better at reading defenses and blocking. (Running backs) Coach (Tim) Spencer has said if you want to play you have to be able to block. I want to play so that’s something I have to get better at. I can’t really take these guys head-on, so I have to block them from the side and try to get them off balance a little bit. I want to be the best and you have to be able to block to be the best.”%^$
%^$On Saturday’s scrimmage at Ohio Stadium
%^$”Just playing in the horseshoe period is a great experience. Once I get there it’s going to be something special. I’m going to go out there and do what I do best. Hopefully I can break a couple and show the coaches that I’m a pretty good tailback.”%^$
%^$Ben Hartsock (So., Chillicothe, Ohio/Unioto)
%^$On practice thus far
%^$”It’s going really well. Sometime you get tired, but this is when you’ve got to push yourself to get better and avoid mental mistakes.%^$
%^$On Saturday’s scrimmage at Ohio Stadium
%^$”That’s really going to pick things up. If you can’t get up for playing in the ‘shoe then there is something wrong with you. It’s going to be a chance for some of the younger guys to earn some respect. It’s going to be a real game situation. Everyone is going to be really aggressive.”%^$
%^$On the offensive perspective
%^$”There’s a lot of diversity on offense right now. They’re really trying to spread people around and mix things up. There’s a lot of different looks, a lot of different set and formations. We’re throwing it around to a lot of different people including the tight ends.”%^$
%^$Brandon “Bam” Childress (Fr., Warrensville Heights, Ohio/Chanel)
%^$On how he fits into the offense
%^$”I’ve caught people’s eyes so far. It’s hard to say where my niche is right now. I like to catch the ball and make that first guy miss. I think if I can do that constantly I feel I can be like the Santana Moss or Vinny Sutherland type. Catch those short routes, make that first guy miss and get a first down.”%^$
%^$On the transition from defensive back to wide receiver
%^$”I like it a lot. I’ll do whatever it takes to help the team win and get better. The team comes first.”%^$
%^$On Saturday’s scrimmage
%^$”I want to go out there and show everybody what I can do. But I don’t want to make it to big to where I’m putting pressure on myself. I want to go out there and have fun.”%^$
%^$Angelo Chattams (Fr., Dayton, Ohio/Chaminade-Julienne)
%^$On practice thus far
%^$”It’s hard learning the plays, but the older guys take the time to help us out. I like the challenge. Everyone out there is a great athlete. Overall it’s pretty fun.%^$
%^$”You want to get the plays down and run the right routes, but you also can’t think too much. You just have to show your athletic ability.”
