Men’s Basketball Unveils 2001-02 Schedule – Ohio State Buckeyes

%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 2001-02 Ohio State men’s basketball team begins its quest for a fourth-consecutive NCAA Tournament berth Nov. 18 as the Buckeyes open their season at home vs. Winthrop. The Eagles are one of nine 2001 NCAA Tournament teams featured on the Buckeyes’ schedule, while four National Invitation Tournament teams also are included on the upcoming slate. In all, Ohio State will play 17 games against teams which competed in postseason play last season.%^$
%^$Ohio State’s non-conference schedule is highlighted by its first appearance in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Buckeyes will play host to North Carolina State at 7:30 p.m. before a national television audience on ESPN2. OSU also will travel to Louisville Dec. 15 for a matchup with the Cardinals and first-year head coach Rick Pitino. The Buckeyes conclude their non-conference schedule at Massachusetts Jan. 9.%^$
%^$The Big Ten season opens Jan. 2 as Ohio State travels to Mackey Arena for a battle with Purdue. The Buckeyes’ conference home opener is Jan. 5 vs. Iowa. OSU will play six of its first nine Big Ten games at home before embarking on a four-game road swing in which the Buckeyes will tackle Wisconsin (Feb. 6), Michigan State (Feb. 10/CBS), Iowa (Feb. 16) and Indiana (Feb. 20). All four teams competed in the NCAA Tournament last season.%^$
%^$Ohio State will meet Penn State, Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin just once this year. The Nittany Lions (Jan. 16) and Fighting Illini (Jan. 29) visit Columbus, while the Buckeyes will travel to Minnesota (Jan. 26) and Wisconsin (Feb. 6). OSU will meet the rest of the Big Ten teams twice.%^$
%^$In addition to OSU’s national television appearance in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, the Buckeyes also will have at least three games nationally televised. The game at Michigan State (Feb. 10) will be broadcast by CBS, while home contests with Michigan (Jan. 24) and Illinois (Jan. 29) will be on ESPN. The networks for the games vs. Michigan State (Feb. 26) and at Michigan (March 2 or 3) will be determined at a later date.%^$
%^$The remaining games will be televised by ESPN Plus Regional television and will be shown locally in Columbus on WBNS-TV Ch. 10.%^$
