Buckeyes Stand Fourth in Latest Directors’ Cup Totals – Ohio State Buckeyes

%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio– The National Association of Collegiate Athletics Directors (NACDA) released the current standings for the Sears Directors’ Cup May 31 following the completion of the six of the 14 spring sports in competition. After attaining its highest position in the standings at fourth place following the winter season, Ohio State remains fourth with 781 points, having collected 172 at the midway point of the spring. Stanford continues to lead with 1,094.5 points and is followed by fellow Pacific-10 member UCLA (899 points), Michigan (814.5), OSU and Southeastern Conference member Florida (677).%^$
%^$The Buckeyes now enter the spring season with its best position all-time after opening in sixth in the spring of the 1996-97 campaign. If the Buckeyes can hold onto the fourth spot, they will claim their highest finish all-time after taking fifth in the final standings in the 1995-96 campaign.%^$
%^$The Buckeyes remained in the Top 5 by earning points in four of the six events scored thus far in the spring. The men’s volleyball team, after making its second-consecutive appearance in the national semifinals, led OSU with the highest national finish, a third-place showing, and accumulated 20 points. The women’s rowing team paced the Buckeyes with 70 points following its highest national finish (fourth place) and was closely followed by the women’s golf team (22nd, 52 points). The women’s tennis team rounded out the scoring with the 20 points it earned after finishing 33rd in its national event.%^$
%^$Women’s lacrosse and women’s water polo were the only other sports scored for the spring standings in these rankings. The sports remaining to be scored include baseball and softball, men’s golf, men’s lacrosse, men’s tennis, men’s water polo and men’s and women’s outdoor track and field.%^$
%^$The Big Ten Conference also is faring well as No. 3 UM, No. 4 OSU, No. 6 Penn State (668 points) and No. 10 Wisconsin (641) occupy spots in the Top 10. No. 20 Minnesota (491), No. 22 Indiana (461.5) and No. 25 Michigan State (432) round out the Top 25.%^$
