The Ohio State football team opened spring practice Saturday morning with a spirited two-hour workout under sunny skies at the Woody Hayes Athletics Center.
“It was a good first day,” said Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel. “Our players were really into it and there was a lot of enthusiasm out there. It is a starting point, and now we can just keep evaluating and building. As one of our players said yesterday at our press conference ‘You can’t win a national championship in the spring, but you can lose it.'”
Saturday, of course, marked the beginning of the Tressel era at Ohio State. The 48-year-old coach took over the Ohio State reins on Jan. 18.
“It really felt like any other practice,” he said. “As happy and excited as I am to be here, if you let those outside things influence you, you lose focus. We can’t allow that to happen here. We have to stay focused and keep getting better.”
