2001 Butkus Silver Anniversary Award Winner Named – Ohio State Buckeyes

Orlando-The Downtown Athletic Club of Orlando announced former Ohio State All-American linebacker Bob Brudzinski as the 2001 Butkus Silver Anniversary Award Winner. He will join Butkus Award® finalists Rocky Calmus (Oklahoma), E.J. Henderson (Maryland), Robert Thomas (UCLA), their head coaches and the award’s namesake Dick Butkus as they are honored at the Butkus Award® Presentation Ceremony on December 7, 2001 at the Downtown Orlando Marriott-Expo Center.
Brudzinski was an Ohio State Buckeye from 1973-1976 where he won four Big Ten championships. During his college career he was voted All-Big ten twice as well as being named a two-time All-American. Brudzinski celebrated three birthdays (January 1) by playing in three Rose Bowls and an Orange Bowl. He is a member of the Ohio State Sports Hall of Fame and the Buckeye All-Century team. In 1977 he started his NFL career with the L.A. Rams before finishing his 13-year career with the Miami Dolphins. He currently owns a number of sports grills and restaurants in South Florida.

The three finalists, their coaches, families and the Butkus Silver Anniversary Award winner are scheduled to attend the event. Sunshine Network’s Paul Kennedy will be the master of ceremonies. This is the first time in the club’s 17-year history that the Butkus Award® will be presented during a banquet-luncheon format. We look forward to providing a new avenue so more people can experience the excitement of the Butkus Award®.
