Recap| Box Score| Notes
N.C. State Head Coach Herb Sendek
“I think the stat sheet is extremely revealing as to how we shot the ball. It is almost impossible to overcome number like that (15-55 FG). I thought we did a good job on the defensive side of the floor. The ball just wouldn’t go down for us tonight.
“This was our first road test of the season with seven first-year guys. I thought our guys gave a good effort, battled hard, and we were still hanging around with a chance to win it. I think we relied on it (three-point shot) too heavily tonight.”
Archie Miller
“This is not one of the better games I have played. We just couldn’t get into the flow offensively tonight. It is just one of those days that you want to forget about.
“He (Brandon Fuss-Cheatham) was always around while I was playing for my father in high school. This was the first time we played against each other in real competition. He is going to be a very good player. He has a good work ethic and I’ll be shocked if he doesn’t become a great college player someday.”
Ohio State Head Coach Jim O’Brien
“The obvious thing is that we are thrilled with winning this game. We consider ourselves fortunate to win this game. It was not pretty. I think neither team is happy with the way their side played offense.
“Both teams were grinding it out. Our guys had to dig in there to win this game. Certainly, N.C. State had something to do with that. We have a lot of things to work on.
“This is the first year we are a part of this thing (ACC/Big Ten Challenge). I think we would all like to see the Big Ten get the upperhand. This was a quality win. It gives us an opportunity to help ourselves. Those guys (N.C. State) will win their share of games. We can say we helped the conference out.” Brian Brown
“It was a quality win against a good ACC school. A win always feels good, especially on national television. We got a win for the Big Ten tonight and hopefully the rest of the conference will do their part.
“One of our goals was to win the first five minutes of the second half and I think we did that.
“It was ugly, but it was a win. They were missing shots and so were we. There were a lot of turnovers and missed freethrows, but we pulled it out. That shows the establishment of a strong team.
“I feel good about my team. I think one thing we have to work on is our rebounding. The guards have to get in there and help the big guys.
“It was an off night for them shooting and a pretty good defensive effort by us. We were being tentative, they did a lot of slow trapping. In the second half we just pushed the ball up the court.”
Brent Darby
“You have to work hard to get a win. It was a big win for us, but we didn’t play as well as we could have, that is just something we have to work on.
“Anytime you play a different team they throw a lot of different looks at you. They had a bad offensive night. Archie Miller is one of the best three-point shooters in the nation and he didn’t score tonight. Our defense played well, but they still missed open shots.”
Will Dudley
“I think overall we were playing good defense and taking the big shots. We were still in the game because of our defense.
“They (N.C. State) were no surprise because this is the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. We knew they were going to come out and play a tough game.
“It was a pretty physical game, but we expect that because we play in the Big Ten.”
Tim Martin
“They really didn’t play a good second half and we didn’t play well in the first half. We had a good opportunity to go out and play a better half. We just kept playing and we got the win because of defense. Even though we are a young team, we can compete.”
