STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Penn State today announced plans to create a fund for those wishing to make contributions to help support the long-term care of injured Nittany Lion football player Adam Taliaferro, who suffered a severe spinal injury in last weekend’s game at Ohio State.
Athletic director Tim Curley said the fund will be established within the University development office to support the Taliaferro family with Adam’s long-term care and to assist with expenses over and above those covered by family, University and NCAA catastrophic injury insurance programs.
“It appears that Adam’s medical treatment will be fully covered by insurance policies presently in place, including the NCAA catastrophic coverage,” Curley said. “Since his injury, however, we have had hundreds of persons interested in making contributions to his care. This outpouring of support for Adam and his family is especially heartening and we have established this special fund to address extraordinary expenses that may not be covered by existing insurance.”
Curley said that persons wishing to make donations may send them to the:

Any money not required for Adam’s long-term care will be transferred to an endowed scholarship in his name.
Taliaferro was transferred Wednesday from the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. He is eventually expected to be moved to the Magee Rehabilitation Hospital. His home is in Voorhees, N.J., which is 15 miles from Philadelphia.
The Penn State football team will sponsor a Prayer and Support Rally for their injured teammate on Friday at noon in front of Old Main. Assistant coach Larry Johnson and several members of the football squad are scheduled to speak and lead prayers for the complete recovery of Taliaferro.
