Ohio State Notes
Stadium Record – Today’s attendance of 96,721 is an Ohio Stadium record. The old mark was set opening day this year with 96,583 against Fresno State.
Over 100 – Senior tailback Derek Combs recorded his first career 100-yard rushing afternoon vs. Miami. He rushed for 142 yards on 21 carries. Junior tailback Jonathan Wells also had his first career 100-plus yard game when he rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries. Senior flanker Ken-Yon Rambo also totaled over 100 yards today, with 100 yards on six receptions. It is the fourth 100-plus yard game in Rambo’s career, the last coming against Iowa in 1999 when he caught seven passes for 179 yards.
The Last Time Over 100 – Combs and Wells are the first Buckeyes to rush for 100-plus yards in a game since Michael Wiley (128 yards) against Illinois last year. The last time the Buckeyes had two running backs go for over 100 yards in one game was against Pittsburgh in 1996 when Pepe Pearson rushed for 103 yards and Joe Montgomery rushed for 109.
First Start – Redshirt freshman Adrien Clarke made his first career start at left tackle.
Long Kicks – Dan Stultz’s 49-yard field goal in the first quarter was the fifth longest in Ohio Stadium history. He holds the stadium record with a 55-yarder against Indiana in 1997. Streak Broken – Chad Cacchio’s 19-yard reception in the second quarter was his first non-touchdown catch of the season. In the first two games, the senior flanker recorded two receptions for a pair of touchdowns.
Another Streak Started – In the second quarter, Cacchio made his second reception of the ballgame, a 35-yard touchdown reception. This marked the third-consecutive game he scored on a touchdown reception. The last Buckeye to record a touchdown reception in three-consecutive games was Ken-Yon Rambo last year (vs. UCLA, Ohio and Cincinnati).
