Derek Ross returned the opening kickoff 47 yards on his first career kickoff return as a Buckeye.
Defensive end Kenny Peterson’s first quarter sack was his first as a Buckeye.
Arizona’s Ortege Jenkin’s first quarter 11-yard rushing TD was the first rushing TD allowed by the Buckeyes this season.
Sophomore Curtis Crosby’s fumble recovery in the first quarter of an Arizona punt was his first as a Buckeye.
Dan Stultz’s 26-yard first quarter field goal and his 20-yard fourth quarter FG were his second and third successful FGs in three attempts on the season. He has made 14 of 16 from 20-29 yards in his Buckeye career.
Vaness Provitt’s first quarter 44-yard reception from Steve Bellisari was a career long catch.
Tim Cheatwood’s 1-yard TD reception at the start of the second quarter was his first career reception.
OSU true freshman Will Smith recorded his first career sack and forced fumble on the same play late in the second quarter (2:44).
Ohio State senior Chad Cacchio’s third quarter 60-yard TD reception was his second catch of the season and his second TD catch. It also was his career-long reception.
Jonathan Wells scored his sixth career rushing TD to put OSU up 24-17 late in the third quarter. Ohio State has held both opponents this season under 100 yards rushing. Fresno State gained just 87 in the season opener while the Wildcats were held to 57. Ohio State has held back-to-back foes under 100 yards on the ground for the first time since 1998 when OSU held its last nine opponents to less than 100 yards in an 11-1 season.
Ohio State quarterback Steve Bellisari threw for more than 200 yards for the fourth time in his career. He finished with 239 yards, just short of his career high of 243 last year vs. Ohio. His 12 completions also tied his career high.
