COLUMBUS, Ohio–The 2000 Ohio State football season officially gets underway later this month when John Cooper, OSU head coach, along with quarterback Steve Bellisari (Jr., Boca Raton, Fla./Boca Raton) and defensive end Rodney Bailey (Sr., Cleveland, Ohio/St. Edwards) travel to Chicago for the 29th annual Big Ten Conference Kickoff Luncheon. The event is held this year at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers.
Cooper enjoys the Big Ten Kickoff for a variety of reasons. “The exciting thing about the kickoff luncheon is you know once you get back home the players will be reporting,” Cooper said. “You also have the opportunity to see your fellow colleagues. There is an opportunity to get an idea of what the Big Ten will have to offer in the coming year.”
Upon returning to the Ohio State campus, Cooper looks forward to working with the incoming freshmen and the returning varsity.
“We are anxious to see the young pups in person that we recruited last year to see just how good they are,” Cooper said. “We get a chance to evaluate their talents, see how fast they are, see how big they are and see how high they can jump. We also are looking forward to working again with our varsity players. They have been working hard all summer. We are anxious to get out on the field.”
The public is invited to an autograph session with coaches and players from 10-11 a.m. in the Promenade Room followed by the 29th Annual Kickoff Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Sheraton Ballrooms.
