COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Men’s and Women’s Varsity “O” Associations have selected a total of 15 former Ohio State athletes for induction into the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame. This year’s class, which is comprised of eight males and seven females, will be inducted the weekend of Sept. 15-16 in Columbus as part of the festivities surrounding the Ohio State-Miami (Ohio) football game.
Three football players are in the men’s group, including two-time All-America linebacker Chris Spielman, winner of the 1987 Lombardi Award. Keith Byars, a 1984 All-America tailback selection, and 1945 All-America fullback Ollie Cline round out the list of gridiron honorees.

The women’s class features Laura Davis Johnson, the 1994 National Volleyball Player of the Year, and Carrie Irish Finneran, a four-time All-America diver for the Buckeyes in the late 1970s.
Basketball standouts Nikita Lowry and June Brewer Daugherty also were selected for enshrinement. Lowry was a first-team All-America pick and the Big Ten’s MVP in 1989. Daugherty was a finalist for the Wade Award as the top player in college basketball as a senior in 1978.

All 15 members will be officially inducted on Sept. 15. The men’s induction ceremony will take place at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, while the women’s ceremony will be held at the University Plaza Hotel on Olentangy River Road. The entire group will be introduced at halftime of the Ohio State-Miami game on Sept. 16.
Additionally, longtime men’s basketball trainer Mike Bordner, who will retire this August, has been awarded an Honorary Varsity “O” by the men’s association. Bordner also will be recognized during the Hall of Fame weekend in September.
This is the 24th year for the Men’s Hall of Fame, which was started in 1977, and the eighth year for the Women, who took in their first class in 1993.
