– Ohio State shot .517 (31-60) from the field marking the first time this season the Buckeyes have reached .500 or better on the road. OSU is 6-0 this season when shooting .500 or better. The last time the Buckeyes shot .500 or better away from home was a .547 (29-53) effort in the 77-74 win over St. John’s in the South Regional Final last year in Knoxville, Tenn. (3/20/99). The last time OSU reached the .500 shooting mark on an opponent’s floor was a .517 effort (31-60) at Purdue in an 80-69 win Feb. 6, 1999.
– With the win over Penn State in State College, the Buckeyes will have an opportunity to win its final two Big Ten road games for the first time since 1992 when the Buckeyes downed Michigan State (2/29/92) and Minnesota (3/14/92). The last time Ohio State finished the Big Ten season with consecutive road wins was in 1946 when OSU won at Chicago (2/22/46) 53-31 and at Northwestern (2/23/46) 53-46. OSU won the Big Ten title that season and advanced to the Final Four. It also was the last year for Chicago in the Big Ten.
– The win over the Nittany Lions broke a five-game losing streak to PSU in State College. The last OSU win was a 60-57 victory in 1994.
– Michael Redd reached 20+ points for the fourth consecutive game with 22 vs. PSU. He had a 4-game streak last year as well from 12/14/98 to 12/22/98. His record for consecutive 20+ games is nine set during his freshman season from 11/24/97 to 12/28/97. The current streak began with 28 at Indiana followed by 25 vs. Northwestern, 21 vs. Illinois and 22 vs. PSU. It is the first time in his career he has reached 20+ vs. four consecutive Big Ten teams.
– Ohio State won for the fifth time this season on the road in the Big Ten. The Buckeyes have defeated Wisconsin, Northwestern, Michigan, Indiana and Penn State away from Columbus this season.
– Senior center Ken Johnson block five PSU shots to give him 143 on the season. That broke the Big Ten record of 140 formerly held by PSU’s Calvin Booth (1997-98). Johnson has 301 rejections in his career. He is only the sixth Big Ten player in history to block 300 or more and just the second Buckeye (Herb Williams, 328). Johnson is six shot of fifth place in Big Ten history. That position is currently held by Brad Sellers (307).
– Michael Redd narrowly missed a double-double with 22 points and nine rebounds. Redd has four double-doubles this season, and OSU is 3-1 in those contests, losing only at Kansas.
– Redd moved closer to fourth place on the all-time OSU scoring list with 1,809 points. Redd, currently fifth, has his sights on No. 4 Kelvin Ramsey, who scored 1,934 career points.
– Ohio State has now connected on at least one three-point goal in 246-consecutive games. Michael Redd extended the streak with a 3-pointer early in the first half.
– Scoonie Penn is now in 37th place in career scoring at Ohio State with 1,015 points. Penn now has 1,751 total points in his career at Boston College (737) and Ohio State.
– George Reese scored in double figures (16 vs. PSU) for the 18th time this season. OSU owns a 15-3 record in those contests. Reese has reached double digits in each of the last eight games.
– George Reese established career highs in assists (4) and minutes (37) against the Nittany Lions. He also tied his career high block total with one rejection.
– Brian Brown scored in double figures for the 16th time in his career. The Buckeyes hold a 13-3 record in those games.
