Ohio State Runs Away From Slovenia 100-59 In Exhibition Opener – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio-The Ohio State women’s basketball team shot 64 percent from the floor in the second half en route to a 100-59 victory against the Slovenian basketball club of ADD Ilirija. All 13 players on the Buckeye roster logged time will 11 registering points on the scoreboard. The loss was the fourth consecutive for Slovenia, which is in the midst of an eight-game tour in the United States.
Slovenia’s Sasa Stubler led all scorers with 22 points while center LaToya Turner’s 16 points (8-of-12 FGs) paced OSU. Guard Tomeka Brown and forward Courtney Coleman also finished in double-figures, adding13 points each while guards Lauren Shenk and Jamie Lewis scored 11.
Turner and Coleman led in the rebounding column with eight caroms each. Lewis, the Buckeyes’ fourth all-time assists leader, distributed 10 for the afternoon.
“We worked really hard to get a good pace and on getting easy opportunities,” head coach Beth Burns said. “We put ourselves in a great position to score.
“It’s certainly something to build on.”
In second half play, the Buckeyes’ defensive pressure resulted in 16 Slovenia turnovers, 35 for the game. Coleman paced the team effort with four steals and Shenk, forward DiDi Reynolds and guard Tanya McClure each collected three take-aways.
For the game, the Buckeyes shot 50 percent from the floor and 62.5 percent at the charity stripe. OSU dominated the boards by a 47-31 margin and collected 20 steals to Slovenia’s four.
“I am really pleased with Jamie and Tanya,” Burns said. “They really pushed the pace, pushed the intensity and did some great things defensively. I think our pressure started with them.”
Ohio State will play its second and final exhibition contest Sunday, Nov. 12 vs. Tapiolan Honka of Finland. Tip-off is 2 p.m. in Value City Arena.
