Women’s Hockey Falls To WCHA Foe Bemidji State, 2-1 – Ohio State Buckeyes

BEMIDJI, Minn.-The Ohio State women’s ice hockey team lost to Bemidji State, 2-1, Friday night at John S. Glas Fieldhouse. With the loss, the Buckeyes slip to 2-4-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the WCHA, and the Beavers stand at 2-6-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the WCHA.
The game was scoreless through most of the first period. BSU right wing Beth Brown put the Beavers on the board with her fourth goal of the season from Lisa Peters at 19:17 in the first period. The Buckeyes responded less than 10 seconds later. Leah Peyer (Fr., Little Canada, Minn./Roseville) scored her first career goal at 19:25 and tied the game at one going into the first intermission. The assist went to Jeanne Chapple (Fr., Vadnais Heights, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary’s).
BSU’s Lisa Peters scored the lone goal of the second period at 10:57, and the Beavers took a 2-1 lead.
At 14:00 in the third period, Bemidji’s Kaisa Brehmer was assessed with a tripping penalty in front of the Beaver net. OSU earned a penalty shot but was unable to score.
OSU was scoreless on four power-play opportunities and BSU went 0-for-1 .
The Buckeyes held the Beavers to just two shots in the third period and outshot BSU, 45-15. OSU goalie April Stojak (So., Kent, Ohio/Shattuck-St. Mary’s) played 58:45 and recorded 13 saves in the losing effort. BSU’s Bre Dedrickson stopped 44 Buckeye shots.
Ohio State returns to action Saturday at 7:05 p.m. against Bemidji State in the series finale at John S. Glas Fieldhouse.
