Women’s Hockey Ties No. 5 Wisconsin, 3-3, In Overtime – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio–The Ohio State women’s ice hockey team skated to a 3-3 tie with Wisconsin Saturday night at the OSU Ice Arena. Corinne Rosen (Sr., Milwaukee, Wis./Pomfret) scored her fourth goal of the season and picked up an assist. April Stojak (So., Kent, Ohio/Shattuck-St. Mary’s) recorded 22 saves for an .880 save percentage. Following the two-game series, the Buckeyes are 3-5-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the WCHA and the Badgers stand at 7-2-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the WCHA.
At 11:43 in the first period, Lindsey Steblen (So., Clayton, N.Y./Immaculate Heart Central) took a shot from the far right side of the Badger net and managed to slide the puck past UW goalie Jackie MacMillan for an unassisted power-play goal. The goal was Steblen’s first of the season. Meghan Hunter scored her second of the weekend and 14th of the season at 16:13 from Kendra Antony and Kerry Weiland. The game was tied at one going into the first intermission.
Rosen netted a power-play goal at 1:43 the second stanza. Melissa Pirie (So., Islington, Ontario/Pomfret) shoveled the puck to Rosen and was awarded an assist. Kelli Halcisak (Fr., Grosse Isle, Mich./Shattuck St. Mary’s) extended the Buckeyes’ lead to two less than two minutes later with her second goal of the season. Assists went to Lindsey Ogren (So., North Oaks, Minn./Moundsview) and Rosen. Hunter struck again for the Badgers at 13:22 in the second to close the gap for the UW.
OSU held onto its lead through almost the entire third period. Kendra Antony tied the game at three with 50 seconds remaining when she shot the puck off the inside crossbar. Neither team was able to score in the five-minute overtime period.
The Buckeyes converted two-of-two power-play opportunities, for a perfect 100 percent. The UW went 1-for-3. OSU was outshot (25-18) for the first time this season. Stojak picked up 40 saves on the weekend.
“It was a tremendous hockey game,” Jackie Barto, OSU head coach, said. “I thought both teams played hard. I was very pleased with our effort both nights. We played a well-rounded game in all three zones. We want to build on this weekend and the intensity of the games.”
Ohio State travels to Mankato, Minn., Nov. 17 and 18 for a two-game series with the MSU, Mankato Mavericks. Both games will be played at 3:35 p.m. EST at the Midwest Wireless Civic Center.
