Women’s Soccer Ends Streak With 2-1 Victory Over Iowa – Ohio State Buckeyes

%^$COLUMBUS, Ohio– The Ohio State women’s soccer team beat the visiting Iowa Hawkeyes, 2-1, Friday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The Buckeyes ended their streak of five-consecutive losses in conference play and improved their record to 5-8 overall and 1-5 in the Big Ten. Iowa fell to 7-6 overall and 3-4 in the Big Ten.%^$
%^$OSU took the lead for good when Lindsay Eckles (So., Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) dribbled through the defense and scored on a shot to the top left corner of the goal at 16:02.%^$
%^$Sarah Lanham (So., Middletown, Ohio/Middletown) added what would later be the game-winning goal when she broke through the defense and scored from 10 yards out. Kiley Enmark (So., Sterling Heights, Mich./Henry Ford II) and Melanie Vierling (Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio/Cincinnati Country Day) assisted on the Lanham goal.%^$
The Buckeyes shut out Iowa until the 88th minute when UI’s Sarah Lynch put the ball past OSU goalkeeper Amber Barnes (Sr., Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) to pull the Hawkeyes within one.%^$
Barnes recorded five saves in a match that saw 24 total fouls called, including two yellow cards.%^$
“It was a physical game and we won the battle,” Lori Walker, head coach for OSU, said. “We came out enthusiastically and played a great game. I feel that everyone (on this team) contributed to this win.”%^$
OSU will return to action at 12:30 p.m. Sunday when it plays host to Illinois.%^$
