Women’s Hockey Drops Second Game Of Series To UNH, 3-1 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio–The Ohio State women’s hockey team lost Saturday night, 3-1, to the New Hampshire Wildcats. Freshman Jeanne Chapple (Vadnais, Heights, Minn./Mounds View) scored her second goal of the season. The Buckeyes slip to 2-3-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the WCHA. UNH remains undefeated at 3-0-0 overall and 0-0-0 in the ECAC.
Kristen Thomas put the Wildcats on the board at 3:34 in the first period with a power-play goal from Annie Fahlenbock and Jaime Van Massenhove. At 9:05, OSU’s Chapple scored the Buckeyes’ lone goal–a power-play goal and the second of her career. Lindsey Steblen (So., Clayton, N.Y./Immaculate Heart Central) flicked the puck to Katie Frohreich (So., Baudette, Minn./Lake of the Woods), who fired off a shot. Chapple picked up the rebound in mid-air and took a shot while lying face-down on the ice. UNH’s Janine Goulet extended the Wildcats’ lead to 2-1, when she scored the gamewinner at 13:33. Assists went to Allison Edgar and Kira Misikowetz.
Kristen Thomas netted her second goal of the game and the Wildcats’ third at 2:39 in the second period. The goal came on a 4-on-3 UNH power play. Nicole Stefanilo and Fahlenbock recorded assists.
OSU outshot UNH, 31-23. April Stojak (So., Kent, Ohio/Shattuck-St. Mary’s) stopped 20 Wildcat shots. UNH goalie Jen Huggon recorded 30 saves and the win.
OSU went 1-for-7 (14.3%) on the power play, while UNH converted 2-of-9 (22.2%) opportunities.
The Buckeyes next travel to Bemidji, Minn. for a two-game conference series. OSU will face off against the Bemidji State Beavers at 7:05 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3 and at 7:05 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4. Both games will be played at John S. Glas Fieldhouse. Ohio State returns home Friday-Saturday, Nov. 10-11, to take on rival Wisconsin. Both games will be played at 7:05 p.m. at the OSU Ice Arena.
