Practice Highlights
The bulk of the Ohio State receiving corps – Reggie Germany, Ken-Yon Rambo, Vanness Provitt, Ricky Bryant, Chad Cacchio, and Drew Carter – all looked lightning fast after a day of rest and had stellar practices…freshman linebacker Fred Pagac Jr., son of defensive coordinator Fred Pagac, snagged an big interception inside the 10-yard line…Big Darnell Sanders, a redshirt freshman tight end that stands 6-6 and weighs 265-pounds, hauled in a 25-yard touchdown catch…Junior cornerback David Mitchell had a couple of pass breakups in the final session…Former Buckeyes Greg Frey and Carlos Snow dropped by practice to check out this year’s squad and visit with the coaching staff.
John Cooper “Quotes”…
“Today was a better practice. Saturday’s scrimmage was OK. But today was a much better practice. The kids got yesterday off. They tend to perk up when they get more rest.”
The position battles…
“I am starting to get some opinions on some of them but I don’t want to say who is going to start or who is going to play. We still have at least one scrimmage and maybe even two before we decide.” Which freshmen will play…
“There are four or five of those guys who will play either on special teams or a position. Michael Doss looks like he will play and Drew Carter will play. But I am not sure about the offensive lineman. Maybe one or two of those linebackers again depending on what happens in the next scrimmage.”
Sophomore Austin Moherman
On the scrimmage…
“The offense played pretty well. We made some good plays but we made some mistakes. We just have to correct them and get ready for Miami.”
Sophomore Steve Bellasari
“For a first scrimmage, we did real well. The defense was good as usual but the offense went smooth for the most part. Overall, I thought we had a decent scrimmage.”
Junior Na’il Diggs
“The coaches expect more of me than they did in the past and so do the players because I am more experienced now. I’ve been here a few years and I know how things work and what they expect. There is definitely more responsibility now. I would not say it is a bad thing but the more years you grow into the Ohio State system, you mature a lot and you know how to react to certain environments. I think it really makes you a man.”
“I can really recognize a sense of people picking up the plays and getting a feel for the game. I am happy with what I have seen and with how I am pushing the situation.”
Senior Michael Wiley
“Out of all the years I have been here I feel that was our best first scrimmage. We are doing really well right now.”
“They say it is our last three-a-days but who knows, we might see one on Thursday or Friday. You never know but hopefully today is our last. The hardest part of the day is just getting up.”
