COLUMBUS, Ohio – When the sun comes out, it’s hot in Columbus and that’s just what head coach John Cooper wants for his ninth-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes, who play Miami in the Kickoff Classic at Giants Stadium in just 16 days. “We won’t have a conditioning edge over Miami,” said Cooper, referring to the fact that he felt Ohio State has been in better condition than its opponents in most of its early season games. “Miami knows what playing in the heat is all about.”
Buckeye FYI and Good Stuff
* The Buckeyes had their fifth-consecutive three-a-day practice session Friday and that means there is just one more: Monday, Aug. 23.
* Look for a ranking of national television exposures in the 1990s in an upcoming issue of ESPN The Magazine. Ohio State’s 56 national telecasts in the 1990s has to rank near the top. That number will grow by at least three more this season as the Miami, Penn State and Michigan games are all slated for national exposure on ABC.
* Several electric individual performances highlighted the Friday evening practice. Freshman tight end Darnell Sanders made an athletic one-handed reception along the sideline. Junior tailback Derek Combs busted out wide to left side and galloped 46-yards for a touchdown. Freshman receiver Drew Carter continued to impress, making an excellent reception off a hard-thrown tipped ball over the middle in traffic. Sophomore cornerback Nate Clements showed nice sideline coverage the entire practice and collected two pass break-ups.

Jr. FL Ken-Yon Rambo
“Everybody’s working real hard, running their routes real good. The defense is doing really well. I think we’re ready to go.”
