Ohio State Tennis Receives National Rankings – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team and members of both the men’s and women’s teams are ranked among the best in the nation in rankings released today by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The top 75 teams, 100 singles players and 50 doubles teams were rated following the fall tournament season.
The women’s team, under the direction of fourth-year had coach Chuck Merzbacher, is ranked 38th in the country, up from No. 52 at the end of last season. The squad also is ranked third (tied) in the Midwest region.
Kristy Dascoli (Jr., Bradenton, Fla.) moved up from No. 50 to No. 39 after a standout fall season in which she reached the final of the ITA Midwest Regional and defeated then No. 7-ranked Michelle Dasso of Notre Dame. Dascoli’s ranking is the highest ever for an OSU women’s tennis player, topping her own mark of No. 49 set last season.
Michelle Matko (So., Aurora, Ill.) received her first national ranking, No. 100 (tied), after going 8-3 in the fall and claiming the singles consolation title at the Midwest Regional. The doubles duo of Dascoli and Briana Harris (Jr., Bradenton, Fla.) are currently ranked 33rd nationally. The tandem advanced to the semifinals at the regional and compiled a record of 5-5 in the fall tournament season.
On the men’s team, under the direction of first year head coach Ty Tucker, singles player Chris Porter (Jr., Canton, Ohio) is ranked No. 62 (tied) after advancing to the third round of the ITA Region IV Tournament. Porter and doubles partner Andrew Carlson (Jr., Gambrills, Md.) are ranked No. 35 (tied), the highest-ever ranking for an OSU men’s doubles duo. The unseeded tandem reached the round of 16 at the regional, including a win over then-25th ranked Ryan Sachire and David Miller of Notre Dame.
The women’s squad returns to action Jan. 22 when they host Illinois State and Akron, while the men begin their spring season at the Big Ten Indoor Jan. 15-17 in East Lansing, Mich.
