Columbus, Ohio – Eleven members of the Ohio State University football team, headed by first-team Academic All-American and National Football Foundation Scholarship recipient Ahmed Plummer, have been named to the 1999 Academic All-Big Ten Conference team.
Each of Ohio State’s 11 Academic All-Big Ten honorees in 1999 was a key contributor to the team. Plummer, defensive end Matt LaVrar, and tight end Steve Wisniewski each made the Academic All-Big Ten team for a fourth-consecutive year. Three Buckeyes – flanker Chad Cacchio, tight end Kevin Houser and center Kurt Murphy – made the team for a third-consecutive year. Cornerback David Mitchell and linebacker Jason Ott are on the team for a second-consecutive year.
A total of 121 football student-athletes were honored by the Big Ten this year. Over the last seven years, beginning in 1993, Ohio State has had more Academic All-Big Ten honorees – 80 – than all other Big Ten schools.
