COLUMBUS, Ohio – Na’il Diggs is an All-American. The junior linebacker from Los Angeles, Calif., was named today a first-team All-America by the Football News, an honor that caps a season in which he was a semifinalist for the Butkus Award and the Football News Defensive Player of the Year Award, and lead the 6-6 Buckeyes in virtually every defensive category.
Diggs, 6-4 and 235-pounds, led the team in tackles (94), assisted tackles (30), tackles-for-loss (15) and yards (53), quarterback sacks (six) and yards (38), and forced fumbles (three). He also ranked third in pass break-ups with three. His efforts vaulted him into OSU’s all-time top ten charts in tackles-for-loss (he is tied for sixth with 39) and quarterback sacks (tied for fifth with 18).
The honor marks the ninth-consecutive year that Ohio State has had at least one first-team All-American, and Diggs becomes the 20th Buckeye to earn All-America honors under head coach John Cooper.
Diggs was joined by Penn State’s LaVar Arrington, Clemson’s Keith Adams and Michigan State’s Julian Peterson as Football News’ first-team All-America linebackers.
Teammate and team co-captain Ahmed Plummer, a senior cornerback from Wyoming, Ohio, was selected to Football News’ All-America third-team. Plummer lead the Buckeyes with five interceptions and nine pass breakups this year.
