COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ryan Root (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) was one of 21 seniors recently selected to represent the United States in the North American University Hockey Championships at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Mich.
Scheduled for this Friday, April 10, the game pits the top college hockey seniors in the U.S. against the best collegiate players from Canadian universities. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m., and will be televised on Fox Sports Detroit. Root, an assistant captain on this year’s Ohio State hockey team, was instrumental in the Buckeyes’ recent trek to the NCAA Final Four. A skilled player both offensively and defensively, Root ended the year with 11 goals and 13 assists for 24 points. He led Ohio State in the plus/minus statistic with a +23 rating. Following his inspired play in the CCHA playoffs, Root was named to the CCHA all-Tournament team. In the inaugural U.S.-Canada collegiate game last season, the Canadian team scored with less than a second remaining in the final period and went on to win the game in overtime.
