Scarlet Downs Gray 20-15 on Razzle Dazzle Play – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Scarlet team defeated the Gray 20-15 in Ohio State’s spring football game before 41,397 in Ohio Stadium.
Reggie Germany caught a 33 yard double reverse flea-flicker pass from quarterback Austin Moherman for the go ahead touchdown with just 2:57 left to play. Moherman handed off to running back Jermon Jackson, who handed off to receiver Kevin Griffin who then flipped it back to Moherman. Germany caught the ball between two defenders after juggling the ball in the air.
The Gray team drove to the Scarlet 15 with 19 seconds left, but Mark Garcia was intercepted by Percy King to thwart the comeback. King finished with two interceptions for the game.
Dan Stultz kicked seven field goals combined for the Scarlet (53 and 22) and Gray (25, 30, 34, 22 and 44) sides missing only from 57 yards for the Scarlet in the first quarter.
Redshirt freshman quarterback David Priestly hooked up with Ken-Yon Rambo on a 33 yard touchdown in the third quarter for the Scarlet.
Spring Game Notes:
*Samuel Smith of Canal Winchester, Ohio hit a 40 yard field goal at halftime to win $50,000. Smith, 24 and a father of two boys, was chosen at large from 2,000 people who registered for the “Kick for Cash” contest. Smith received helpful pointers in a Friday practice session with five former Buckeye kickers and calmly stepped up and drilled the 40 yarder.
*The kicking game is not emphasized in the spring game for fear of injury. However, Brent Bartholomew booted a 78 yard punt midway through the third quarter.
*The Gray team featured the first team offense and the second team defense, while the Scarlet team started the first team defense and the second team offense.
*Austin Moherman was the top Buckeye quarterback on the day. Statistically, he finished 6-11 for 161 yards and a touchdown. Joe Germaine finished 9-14-101-1 in only one quarter of action.
*Derek Combs was the leading rusher on the day. Combs gained 83 yards on 13 carries.
