BOWLING GREEN, OHIO – The Ohio State University Hockey team topped Bowling Green 5-2 Saturday night in the BGSU Ice Arena, clinching home ice advantage in the first round of the CCHA Playoffs for the Buckeyes. Ohio State now stands 20-11-2 overall and 17-10-1 in the CCHA. The win also clinches a third place finish for OSU – its highest since the 1983-84 season.
Ohio State trailed 2-1 entering the final period, but Todd Compeau and Chris Richards each scored a pair of goals in the comeback victory. The Ohio State power-play was the difference in the game. The Buckeyes connected on four power-play attempts in nine-chances, their highest total of the season. OSU’s only non-power play goal was an empty netter by Richards in the final minute. Hugo Boisvert, the CCHA’s leading scorer, scored the first Ohio State goal.
Ohio State is now 11-1-1 since Jan. 9 of this season. The Buckeyes will round out their regular season schedule next Friday and Saturday in Ferris State. Ohio State’s first round home playoff series will be March 13-15 in the OSU ice Arena against an opponent that is yet to be determined.
