Women’s Volleyball Selected to the NCAA Championship – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State (16-13) was selected by the NCAA Volleyball Committee to receive an at-large bid to this year’s NCAA Championship. The Buckeyes will open play on Thursday, December 3 against Texas Tech (23-10) in a first round match that will be played in Gainesville, Florida on the campus of the University of Florida. Host Florida (31-2) will play Tennessee-Chattanooga (23-10) in the other first round match on Thursday. The Thursday winners then play on Friday, Dec. 4.
Ohio State has now been selected to the Championship for 10 consecutive years. OSU has advanced to regional play seven times and reached the National Semifinals twice.
The Buckeyes have a 2-1 record over Texas Tech, have split two matches with Florida and have not played Tennessee-Chattanooga.
Ohio State played Texas Tech in the 1979 Brigham Young Invitational, a 2-0 (15-9, 15-9) Tech win. The teams next played in the 1981 Alabama Invitational with Ohio State winning 2-1 (13-10, 13-15, 15-4). The last meeting came in 1986 at the New Mexico State Classic, the Buckeyes winning 3-2 (15-6, 11-15, 3-15. 15-0, 15-3).
Ohio State defeated Florida 3-2 (9-15, 11-15, 15-4, 15-5, 20-18) earlier this season in Honolulu at the Hawaiian Airlines Tournament. In 1996 Florida defeated Ohio State 3-2 (15-8, 14-16, 13-15, 15-12, 15-6) in the NCAA Central Regional Semifinal at Gainesville.
