IOWA CITY, Iowa –
POST GAME COMMENTS
IOWA HEAD COACH HAYDEN FRY
“Ohio State is a real tough team. We thought they looked as good as we thought they were capable of. We gave a tremendous effort.”
“When Scott Mullen went down, that took out our option game. (Kyle) McCann did as well as he could do with a high ankle sprain. He had several nice passes and runs; I was surprised. Joe Germaine just played super in the second half”
We gave them three (scores) in the first half, so we thought we could play with them in the second half. We didn’t have enough time to deliver the ball, and were worn out on defense.”
“I think that Ohio State could do no worse than tie for the top team in the nation.”
“We have gotten an awful lot of young people some experience. This was bittersweet, but now they know how good they have to become to win.”
OHIO STATE HEAD COACH JOHN COOPER
“We’re happy to get out of here with a victory.”
“After we settled down, we did all right. I’m very pleased with the way we played on defense especially in the second half. Offensively, this might be the best ball game David Boston has had, with his pass receiving and downfield blocking.”
“We did get a couple of stupid penalties.”
“Yes, that touchdown run by Joe Montgomery was a very big play for us after Iowa had scored. He’s (Montgomery) coming on big right now.”
“I think it was important that we come over here and play a good fundamental game. Iowa is beat up and bruised, and losing their starting quarterback also must have hurt them. But there never was a time in this game that I thought we weren’t going to win.”
“All we’re concerned about at this time is what we have control over. The only thing for us to think about now is Michigan next week.”
