COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Big Ten Conference released its weekly women’s basketball awards on Monday. Senior guard Taylor Mikesell was named to the weekly honor roll following her performances against Illinois and Northwestern.
Mikesell had a career-night against Illinois last week as she led the Buckeyes to a perfect 2-0 week. Mikesell averaged 22.5 points per game against Illinois and Northwestern as she accounted for 11 of OSU’s 20 three-pointers on the week, also averaging 4.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.
Against the Fighting Illini, Mikesell scored a career-high 32 points and tied her career-best eight three-pointers – both numbers being career-highs while playing with the Buckeyes. Eight three-pointers is just one shy of the program record as this marked the ninth time in program history a Buckeye made at least eight triples in a game. Mikesell shot 11-of-22 from the floor and 8-of-14 from long range. At Northwestern, Mikesell contributed 13 points and three triples, adding five rebounds and a season-high six assists.
This season, Mikesell is averaging 18.4 points per game and has made 56 triples. She’s scored in double figures in every game of the season and has made at least three long-range shots in 13 of 14 games. Prior to the weekend, Mikesell was second in the nation in three-pointers per game (3.75), fourth in three-point percentage (.511) and tied for fourth in three-pointers made (45).
