COLUMBUS, Ohio – Caley McGinty is set to play in the Augusta National Women’s Amateur in Augusta, Georgia this week. This is her second appearance at the tournament, and she qualified with her 2023 South America Women’s Amateur win in January.
McGinty is one of 72 international women’s amateurs that will compete in a 54-hole stroke play tournament. A cut will take place after the first 36 holes of play, with the leading 30 players advancing to the final round at the historic Augusta National Golf Club.
The first 36 holes will be played March 29-30 on the Island and Bluff nines at Champions Retreat Golf Club. The entire field will play a practice round at Augusta National on Friday, March 31, with the final round taking place on Saturday, April 1. McGinty is set to tee off at 8:35 a.m. on Wednesday and 9:32 a.m. on Thursday.
Provided she remains an amateur, the winner will receive an invitation to the next five Augusta National Women’s Amateurs, the 2023 U.S. Women’s Open, the Chevron Championship and any USGA, R&A and PGA of America amateur championships she is eligible for for one year.
McGinty, from Bristol, England, is the No. 25 ranked women’s amateur in the world. She has turned in two top-two finishes for Ohio State so far this spring season. McGinty was the winner of the Westbrook Invitational; it was her first individual title as a Buckeye and sixth overall college title. In Ohio State’s most recent event, the Mountain View Collegiate, McGinty placed second; she shot three under-par rounds including setting an OSU 18-hole program record, as well as a personal record, in the final round when she fired a 63 (-9).
The first and second rounds of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur will be broadcast live on Golf Channel from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day. NBC Sports will broadcast live final-round coverage from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
